Labor Day weekend we went up to Promontory Summit to see where the two railroads were joined together.
We got to see the two replicas of the original trains used.
The kids wanted to go walk along the tracks and pretend they were trains.
After the renactment was over, we decided to go explore around the area. There is a road you can take that you can see where the workers dug into the mountains to make the grade smooth enough for a train to get up it. It is pretty amazing all the manual labor that went into clearing a path for the trains to go across this great country.
On that road, there is a place you can stop to hike up to a natural arch. The kids had fun rock climbing and exploring the many caves throughout that area. We probably had more fun doing that then actually seeing the trains.
