A Day at Promontory Summit

Labor Day weekend we went up to Promontory Summit to see where the two railroads were joined together.

We got to see the two replicas of the original trains used.

The kids wanted to go walk along the tracks and pretend they were trains.

After the renactment was over, we decided to go explore around the area.  There is a road you can take that you can see where the workers dug into the mountains to make the grade smooth enough for a train to get up it.  It is pretty amazing all the manual labor that went into clearing a path for the trains to go across this great country.

On that road, there is a place you can stop to hike up to a natural arch.  The kids had fun rock climbing and exploring the many caves throughout that area.  We probably had more fun doing that then actually seeing the trains.

Here is a short video I took of the kids climbing the rocks (I didn't get any video of the actual trains, unfortunately.):

Our Twin Orphans

Cambria and Kaitlyn starred as twin orphans in the Morgan Community's production of Annie.

Here are a few select scenes from their performance.  I apologize for the shaky video.  It was shot with my cell phone which is harder to keep steady:

We held a little party after their performance on Saturday.  We were really glad that Grandma and Grandpa Farr, Grandma and Grandpa Hutchings, Great Grandma Page, Great Grandma Wilson, Great Grandma Hutchings, and Aunt Tammy could all come and see the girls perform.

This picture was taken pretty late so everyone looks a little tired:

First Day of School

Milton started First Grade this year.  He was excited to experience a full day of school and school lunch (of course!).  He loves his new teacher.

Cambria and Kaitlyn started Third Grade.  They both have really good teachers and were happy to get back to see their friends again.

The Corner of Utah

We were out exploring a couple of months ago and had decided to drive up the canyon that is east of Coalville (through Upton).  As we were driving, we noticed this marker on a dusty road and we stopped and took a closer look.  It turned out to be a state boundary marker for Utah at the southwest corner of Wyoming.

Playing by the river in South Fork Canyon

I'm a little late updating the blog as usual.  But last August we wanted to escape the heat of the summer and decided to go over to one of the campgrounds in Southfork Canyon to let the kids play by the river.

Our 4th of July

For this year's 4th of July celebration, we stayed close to home and celebrated in Morgan.  Morgan City puts on a fun little celebration including a "double feature" parade (the parade goes up the street and then turns around and comes back again) and booths and kids games at the park.

I didn't get any pictures of the kids gathering candy at the parade this year but here are some pictures of the activites they did at the park:

Milton celebrates his 6th birthday

On Saturday, Milton celebrated his 6th birthday with a friend party.  We decided to have it at the Riverside park in Morgan.  Angie was very brave to invite 14 kids to the party (of which 13 actually came plus our 4 kids).  So we had quite a crowd.

Milton is a very social little boy and enjoys having lots of friends.  He got a lot of fun presents from his friends.

Every birthday party has a birthday cake.  This year he wanted a monster truck cake (monster trucks are a neighborhood fad going around right now).

Angie made him this one.

I thought this was a cute picture of Monsen so I thought I would throw it in.  Monsen always has to have a bump or two on his forehead.

Angie planned a lot of water-related activities for the kids to do.  By far the favorite game was water guns.   Every kid got his or her own water gun.  They played the game for quite a while and we had large packs of kids running around the park shooting water at each other.

It was a great party and I think everybody had a good time.

All I want for (First Grade) are my two front teeth

Our soon-to-be first grader now has a gaping hole in his mouth where his two front teeth were.

The newest member of our family

On Memorial Day, we welcomed the latest member of our family, Cali.  The kids have been asking, begging, and pleading to get a pet.  After one not-so-successful attempt at pet ownership, we got a kitten from a family in our neighborhood.

Walking to the Riverside

We're very blessed to have so many parks within walking distance of our home.  On nice afternoons, it is fun to get out of the house and walk to a nearby park and spend a lazy afternoon letting the kids play.

Here are some pictures I took a few weeks ago on such a day.  We were walking to the Riverside Park in Morgan where they had just installed some new playground equipment.
